Alchemies: form, figure, and archive brings together Kim Dacres, Bev Grant, and Veronica Ryan in a conversation about their respective art practices which engage disparate strategies - from formal and figurative sculpture to documentary photography and music - to express narratives of migration, activism, and sustainability. The discussion will center on Dacres, Grant, and Ryan’s distinct approaches to representation and social engagement, each complex in terms process, sensibility, and the potential for transformation.

Led by New Wave Artist-in-Residence Asser Saint-Val and Pranoo Kumar of Rohi’s Readery , participants will use old textbooks, magazine images, and tools such as Wite-Out to compose their own personalized poems.

Play Well With Words Art Class
Join us for this family-friendly art class, hosted by our current Artist-in-Residence, Asser-Saint-Val, and Pranoo Kumar of Rohi’s Readery. Kids will use a variety of letter stencils to create personalized artworks inspired by literature textbooks from Rohi’s Readery bookstore and images of Asser Saint-Val’s mixed media paintings.

Plant Drawing Workshop with New Wave Artist-in-Residence Joiri Minaya
New Wave invites you to a free outdoor workshop with current artist-in-residence Joiri Minaya hosted by lead residency partner Rosemary Square. Participants will draw plants from around Rosemary Square, discussing topics like shape, color, and size of plant elements such as leaves and flowers, as well as what plants can be recognized and named, which species are native vs. introduced, wild vs cultivated.
The artist will also lead discussions on the social constructions of landscape and the genre of scientific illustrations, questioning their ideas of objectivity, analysis, and scrutiny, while proposing alternative modes of representation and ways of seeing.
Paula Cooper Gallery Palm Beach Tour with New Wave
New Wave warmly invites you to a special virtual tour of Paula Cooper Gallery's current Palm Beach exhibition, The Politics of Desire. This special Zoom tour, led by Director Steve Henry, will feature selected works by Sarah Charlesworth, Ja'Tovia Gary, Christian Marclay and Paul Pfieffer. In cutting, rearranging, and manipulating a variety of archival images, these artists have created multi-media works that reveal both the unreality of the fabricated images that are their source material and the spectacular nature of the culture that produced them. The resulting group of works examines the subjects, objects, and politics of human desire while operating at the intersection of race and gender.

Artist Talk: Bill Bernstein in Conversation with Ty Cooperman
New Wave is thrilled to invite you to a special Zoom artist talk with photographer Bill Bernstein moderated by Ty Cooperman. The two will discuss the cultural impact of Bernstein’s work highlighting the nightlife culture of Downtown New York in the 1970s, as well as many of the subjects he captured on film. The discussion will also put Bernstein’s practice into context and explore what it means to be a film photographer in a digital era.
This discussion is presented in collaboration with TW Fine Art on the Occasion of the gallery’s group exhibition: Saturday, in the park featuring works by Derrick Adams, Beth Stichter, John Chamberlain, Jacolby Satterwhite, Jack Tworkov, Richard Diebenkorn, Ida Ekblad and more, with a special showcase of photographs by Bill Bernstein, highlighting the nightlife culture of Downtown New York in the 1970s.

The panelists will explore such questions as: What are the immediate or long term contributions and changes that artists can provide to theirs or other communities? How can they support their peers? What do artists feel they and/or their work represents or want to represent, especially within the context of social responsibility and advocacy.
Acquavella Galleries Palm Beach Tour with New Wave
New Wave is thrilled to invite you to a special tour of Acquavella Galleries Palm Beach's current exhibition Wayne Thiebaud. This special Zoom tour, led by Eleanor Acquavella, will highlight paintings of many of the most celebrated subjects from the artist’s career. From iconic paintings of sundaes, candies and cakes to striking, vertiginous cityscapes of San Francisco and luminous riverscapes of the Sacramento River Delta, Thiebaud reimagines American subjects and vistas in vibrant colors and unique perspectives. Today, seventy years after his first solo exhibition at age 100, he continues to produce new work and push his exploration beyond the subjects that have captivated him since the 1960s.
Collage-Making With Estelle Maisonett at Rosemary Square
Join New Wave Artist-in-Residence Estelle Maisonett for a family-friendly afternoon art workshop on the lawn at Rosemary Square. Maisonett will lead class attendees through the collage-making process to create their own piece of art inspired by an object they identify, such as a sentimental object, favorite article of clothing, and more. Supplies will be provided.
