FINN FIELDING

CURRENT DREYFOOS STUDENT ARTIST RESIDENT

Finn Fielding is a transgender Florida-born mixed media artist, who creates works celebrating the vibrancy of queer community, drawing from queer culture and exploring the psychological and metaphorical juxtapositions of society and the world they have created in the context of politics and queer identities. Graduating from Dreyfoos School of the Arts in 2025, Fielding has explored figure drawing and catholic imagery as a metaphor for the transgender experience during his time at the interdisciplinary arts high school, using expressive line work and unique mixed-media and collage approaches to traditional figurative artwork. The colorful and youthful perspective exploring love of community and relationships that have spawned from such a flagrant political climate contradicts the negative attitude towards Florida with the beauty that is found within such an environment, specifically for trans youth. The hidden queer experience of South Florida is illuminated in his multiple disciplines. His work aims to celebrate the love and diversity within queer communities, using natural observation, live models, and memories captured in photos as inspiration for larger works.

Fielding’s processes involve lots of found materials such as brown scrap paper, cardboard, loose canvas, and recycled magazines as a base for mixed media paintings and drawings. Expressive line work and bold colors are identified as the hallmarks of the 17-year-old’s body of work, employing the human figure and interpersonal relationships as the focal point for lightly narrative large-scale pieces. Fielding’s recent explorations of film, installation, and multi-dimensional works have opened a door for the future of the graduate’s work, continuously honoring the queer experience with layers of love across multiple mediums.
